Nathan Towney

Nathan Towney is a proud Wiradjuri man from Wellington NSW. He is in his third year as the Principal of Newcastle High School and has worked in schools across the Hunter and Central Coast as well as South Western Sydney. From 2010-2012 Nathan managed the Aboriginal Education team for South Western Sydney, covering 276 schools, working to effectively implement the Aboriginal Education Policy at a local school level and across the region.

Nathan is passionate about innovative curriculum design and relationships being at the core of school success. At Newcastle High School Nathan has implemented a ‘visible, active and strategic’ leadership model with three clear pillars for school success:

1- Relationships

2- Distributed Leadership

3- Effective systems and processes

In 2017 Nathan was awarded the Teacher of the Year award at the inaugural Dreamtime Awards.
