Stephanie Owen Reeder has written and edited over 50 books for both adults and children. As a children’s author, she specialises in bringing history to life for young people through her award-winning Heritage Heroes series. The second title in this series, Amazing Grace, won the NSW Premier’s History Award in 2011 and the third title, Lennie the Legend, won the CBCA Book of the Year Award in 2016. Lennie has also been optioned for both film and stage rights.
Stephanie has worked as a secondary school teacher, a librarian, a university lecturer in children’s literature and a Hansard Editor at Federal Parliament. She is also an award-winning book reviewer, who has reviewed for Reading Time, Magpies, Australian Book Review and Fairfax Media publications.
Stephanie is passionate about children’s literature. She studied Australian children’s books for her Master’s Degree in Education and her PhD in visual literacy. She’s a former Editor of the CBCA journal Reading Time and she wrote Story Time Stars, the companion book to the National Library’s 2019 exhibition on Australian children’s literature.
The next title in Stephanie’s Heritage Heroes series, Will the Wonderkid, will be published in February 2020, and her latest picture book, Trouble in the Surf––illustrated by Briony Stewart and featuring Charles Kingsford Smith, lifesavers and Bondi Beach––will be available in October this year.
