Raelene Mordecai

Raelene Mordecai is a proud Widjabul woman form the Bundjalung Nation (NSW).

Raelene has a degree in primary teaching and has worked as a primary teacher for 15 years at Tabulam Public School, Casino Public School and Byron Bay PS. She has been involved in Aboriginal Education for over 20 years.

Currently, she is the Aboriginal Education and Wellbeing Advisor for the School Services, Department of Education, based in the GoonellabahOffice.

Raelene leads the Aboriginal Education and Wellbeing team (from Tweed Heeds to Forster/Tuncurray), who:

  • Offer best practice advice to our schools in 12 Principal Networks within Rural North,
  • Provide ongoing support to our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families
  • Provides professional learning for staff, and
  • Work closely with other teams within the Department of Education to ensure the best possible outcomes for our kids.

Raelene and her team work closely with local and regional groups and organisations to offer support and provide opportunities for our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and their families as well develop programs for the local and wider educational Community.
