Overview

‘Music Education Skills for the Primary Classroom’ is an online program offered by Musica Viva (MV) with the NSW Teachers Federation - Centre for Professional Learning (CPL).

Enrolments Commence: 20 January 2020

Delivery Dates: 24 February - 15 May 2020

Enrolments Close: 14 February 2020 

Application: Members are advised to register via the Musica Viva website when registrations commence on the 20 January 2020.

The special rate for financial members of the NSW Teachers Federation for the program is $250. Payment for this module is either via a tax invoice or credit card. Credit card payments are made online. For tax invoice payments contact Musica Viva Box Office on 1800 688 482 or email register@musicaviva.com.  Please discuss this payment method with the appropriate person at your workplace prior to completing enrolment.  You will also be required to create an account with Musica Viva prior to completing enrolment.

This online program consists of 5 modules of 3 hours in duration (includes videos and readings, application and task submission) and the expectation would be that the participants complete all modules and evaluations of each module to attain the maintenance of accreditation verification from Musica Viva. Maintenance hours attracted for Proficient Teachers are 15 hours.

  1. Introduction to the course, the value of Music Education, music skills - K-6 Creative Arts Curriculum.

  2. Musical concepts K-6 Creative Arts, pedagogical approaches: practical ideas for the classroom.

  3. How to develop music learning in the classroom: simple to more complex, encouraging creativity.

  4. Linking to other learning - General Capabilities, Cross Curriculum Priorities, use of technology.

  5. Bringing it all together – programming, scope and sequence development, resources in the community.

This course is a general introduction to music education in the primary school, aimed at generalist teachers with minimal music teaching experience who are looking to build confidence. Throughout the course, a MV instructor will be available for questions. A forum will also be run to allow for classroom Q&As to be posted. At the conclusion of the course, a MV instructor will finalise evaluations and provide feedback to participants. It is expected that participants will complete all modules and evaluations of each module to attain the maintenance of accreditation verification from Musica Viva. Completing ‘Music Education Skills for the Primary Classroom’ will contribute 15 hours of NESA Registered PD for Teachers accredited at Proficient Teacher.

2.        A maximum of up to 70 NSW Teachers Federation members are eligible for the special rate.
