Enabling School Leaders and Teachers to drive practice and to build capacity

Overview

This course is designed for school leaders, Highly Accomplished and Lead Teachers, aspiring leaders and Highly Accomplished and Lead Teachers. The course will be delivered and facilitated by Lila Mularczyk, Maurie Mulheron, Highly Accomplished and Lead Teachers, and school leaders.

The Australian Professional Standards for Teachers (APST) describe the knowledge, skills and understanding expected of competent and effective teachers. This professional learning day focuses on strategic, yet practical approaches to embedding the standards to build professional growth; encourage collaboration and develop mentors. The learning will explore ways to plan and implement programs, evaluations and organisation to improve and share practice.

Whole group sessions will explore the integration of the APST to provide opportunities for staff to maintain professional growth. Collaborative processes in how to align faculty and whole school portfolios, structures and organisation with the APST will be shared.

Real Case studies will explore authentic ways to embed APST into school practice. The scenarios are based on real situations and, as such, provide opportunities for school leaders to understand the challenges of embedding APST.

Break-out sessions will be led by teachers accredited at Highly Accomplished or Lead Teacher and school leaders, for colleagues interested in pursuing higher accreditation and/or having a deeper understanding of the standards and how to embed them.

Completing Enabling School Leaders and Teachers to drive practice and to build capacity can be logged as Elective PD and will contribute towards your NESA PD requirements as per NESA's transition arrangements.

Target Participants

Principals, School Leaders, Teachers in leadership positions in school or aspiring to those positions and those of Highly Accomplished and Lead Teacher accreditation
