Improving your Pedagogy with Assessment in English K – 6


This course will enable participants to explore assessment in the NSW English syllabus. Teachers will examine assessment for learning, assessment as learning and assessment of learning.  Participants will explore how to practically implement aspects of assessment in their classrooms. They will look at the power of feedback, learning intentions, success criteria and learning goals to improve student learning as part of the teaching, learning and assessing cycle. Designing rich assessment tasks will be a focus.


Completing a Improving your Pedagogy with Assessment in English K – 6 course will contribute 5 hours of NESA Registered PD addressing 2.3.2, 3.1.2, 3.6.2, 5.1.2, 5.2.2, 5.3.2, 6.2.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.


Target Participants

Teachers K-6 who wish to deepen their understanding of assessment and the NSW English syllabus for the Australian Curriculum.


The first session will explore the place of assessment in the NSW English syllabus. Participants will examine how twenty first century learning impacts on assessment practices.
There will be a range of plenary, small group and workshop delivery modes. Participants will discuss the use of contemporary technologies and the use of interactive planning and programming tools.
